Who We Are: About DSA Santa Cruz

Democratic Socialists of America Santa Cruz was formed originally as a branch of the South San Francisco Bay Democratic Socialists of America chapter shortly after the 2016 presidential election. Because of our membership growth and our unique set of issue priorities that differ from the urban-based organization over the hill, DSA Santa Cruz voted to form its own organizing committee in the spring of 2017, in our current effort to achieve full chapter status within the national DSA.

Democratic Socialists believe that both the economy and society should be run democratically to meet human needs, not to make profits for a few. We are a political and activist organization, not a party; through campus and community-based chapters DSA members use a variety of tactics, from legislative to direct action, to fight for reforms that empower working people.

Our meetings are normally held on the first Saturday of the month at 3 p.m., at the Louden Nelson Community Center, 301 Center Street, Santa Cruz. However, because the DSA National Convention takes place on the first weekend in August, OUR AUGUST MEETING WILL BE AUG. 12, at 3 p.m. at Louden Nelson.
